Random as hell...

It's been a busy day, I'll admit. I've been doing a lot of cleaning, laundry, and basically just running around. Lindsay left yesterday until June 9th; she's in Senegal and The Gambia, so I am basically trying to keep it off my mind that she isn't here. WOMP WOMP BOO HOO.

Anyhow, so I am on my way back home from running some things to the post office. I'm cruising down Tenth Street just east of Rural when something strange catches my eye; a black man standing on the sidewalk with a HORSE next to him. Not something you normally see in this part of the city, but okay. Apparently others were entertained by this as well because he had quite a few people surrounding him. I don't know what that mess was about, but I do know that I looked around for a trailer, say....maybe where a horse would be kept for transport...and no sign of one. ANYWHERE. Not on the side streets. Not on the street I was on. My guess is this guy is a superhero of some sort. What a badass.

I continue on my way home and just keep thinking how weird that was. I come to a stop sign about two blocks away from my house and notice a pedestrian walking across. It's a given that I wait for this person to cross the street, however this wasn't just any person, folks. This was a prostitute. She makes it about half way to the sidewalk (directly in front of my car) and then looks over at me, raises her brow, winks, and is probably thinking she has found her next client. Ummmm....hello!!!!! NO!!!!!! I just waited for her to FINALLY make it back onto the sidewalk, and proceeded with caution. WEIRD.

Not only weird, but holy shit that raised a few questions in my mind. The first: do I resemble a male THAT much? I mean, I know I can be a little boyish, but c'mon. I'm totally a woman. Maybe she has eye problems, maybe it was difficult to see me. UHHH. The second question I have is this: maybe she saw a woman and was still interested in doing "business". Do prostitutes engage in homosexual behavior??? Especially females??? It isn't SO unbelievable that I don't think it doesn't ever happen, but I guess it's just a shock when you are subjected to it first hand.

What a weird 5 minutes. Maybe the guy with the horse and the prositute were just manifestations of my mind. I dunno. Whatever the case...it's still strange as hell. I think the rest of the night will be spent in the comfort and safety of my home. I got a new movie today and I'm reading a really good book. That should keep me entertained.

The "PIGGY" flu

These signs are posted EVERYWHERE in the hospital. I had to snap a photo and put in my two cents....

Just a few comments on the 2009 H1N1 virus and people being sick...
(Way to go Clarian for keeping the idiots out of the hospital.)
  • If you need to be told that washing your hands is basic hygiene AND prevents the spread of germs, you are seriously dumb. What the hell did your parents teach you as a kid???
  • Sneezing happens...clearly you need to cover that shit up. This works for coughs, as well. Have some manners....and a Kleenex.
  • Excessive OR colorful mucous is a sign of INFECTION. You don't need another person's opinion on whether or not it is colorful.
  • Pigs should not be killed for this ridiculous bug.
  • If your loved one is sick, stay the hell away from them. DUH.
  • Stay home if you feel like crap or have any symptoms.

I do not understand why the hell it is impossible for people to understand THE MOST simple concept in the world. Oh...your hands are dirty? Wash them! You just sneezed into your hand? Wash the damn thing! You have a cough? Wash your friggin' hands! You just used the restroom? Novel idea...wash your goddamn hands! You touched your hair? Then wash your paw! You just had dinner? Hmmm...maybe a good hand washing is in store for you!

People have COMPLETELY overreacted over this flu. Sure, I understand it is contagious, it has killed a number of people, and that the number of infected people is growing worldwide. But really, let's not have a shit-fit people. Influenza kills thousands of people each year. The abuse of preventative drugs like Tamiflu and Relenza is only leading to more powerful and fatal viruses. A healthy human body can AND should be able to battle the flu in a day or two, without complication. But, when people start taking these drugs at the first sign of a cough or a sneeze and don't give their immune systems a chance to defend, they just add to the problem. Don't be one of these people.

The point is, I'm sick of hearing about the fucking H1N1 virus. Be smart and wash your hands. Try a probiotic such as acidophillus or try eating some yogurt to boost your immune system.

I really think the only thing good about this virus is that the hospital is regulating visitors to spouses and parents. However, it's a reminder of how ridiculous the fear of this virus is.

Chicago: Girlyman concert review

Please know this one thing: I FUCKING LOVE Girlyman with a burning passion. I have been listening to G-man since their debut album "Remember Who I Am" release in 2004. That was the original reason that we took our little trip to the windy city, to attend the concert at The Old Towne School of Folk Music. I have been to six G-man shows, thus far. I have met all three members several times, chatted their faces off, posed for pics with them, and even went to the extent of having Ty sign my wallet as I stole her guitar pic. My love, on the other hand...had never seen them in concert, nor has she really listened to them much. One night I did play her all of my favorites, but Lindsay does not compute music well. She generally does not know song names, artists, albums, etc. She does, however, have great taste in music and I'm helping her expand her musical horizons.

I had the highest hopes of G-man putting on the best show I have ever seen, since this would be Lindsay's first big experience with the Girlybabes. All of their previous live performances have been nothing less than mind-boggling. SERIOUSLY. They connect so well with their audience. It seems as if each and every member of the audience is captured by their harmonies and upbeat tunes. In between each song is usually some little snippet of touring or at-home life in Atlanta. There truly is so much energy in the room when these guys perform. I've never experienced anything like it.

Not this time, folks. Don't get me wrong...they still put on a good show. It's just..they all seemed to be in a lower-keyed mood than usual. There wasn't the get-up-and-shake-your-ass-off feeling OR the feeling of complete fucking euphoria. It was a REALLY mellow show, they played a lot of their more "down" tunes. I guess I'm just not used to that. They still sounded good. Actually, they SOUNDED better than they ever have before. Maybe that is due to the new sound system they recently purchased, maybe they are evolving and growing musically. Either way, I still LOVE them to death. It just wasn't the best show to introduce a newcomer with.

In celebration of our last (and only) night in Chicago, here we are post-concert being in love. This even called for ice cream after the big night!!!

Note: they do call it the "Windy City" for a reason. HAIR!
